Fishing Blue Mesa Reservoir in Gunnison Colorado | 8/9 Fishing Report

We had another good week jigging salmon and trolling up some trout. As always we are truly thankful for each of you and your support for our business and our families.

Nothing about this year has been normal and the fish, well they are social distancing us as best they can. Kokanee jigging which is our rally season for us to get a lot of trips in with great numbers of salmon just isn’t as successful as most years. But we are thankful that we can still catch salmon with some hard work and persistence. Each day presents each guide with a new challenge. What worked yesterday the salmon may not like today. We are finding success by finding our own schools and cycling through different color presentations to find something that fires them up. The salmon we are catching are big fat fish and make great table fair.

The trout bite has been good. Trolling the top 20 ft has been productive for browns and rainbows. Running planer boards off the side with surface baits or 1-2 colors of lead line has been good.

Perch are beginning to move around and have been tougher to put together a consistent larger fish average. This is due to the water beginning to drop in the better perch areas. Still a fun bite once you find the perch.
